Chicago is suffering from widespread violence. In 2014, the city suffered 435 murders, a number that was unfortunately surpassed in 2015. With the recent police brutality cases against the Chicago police, the relations between citizens and law enforcement has hit an all time low. We hope that programs such as the Golden Shoes Project can help draw even more attention to the terrible outcome of the violence happening in our communities.
Golden Shoes Project Chicago was shown in October of 2015 at the Daley Plaza in downtown Chicago.
Golden Shoes Project Chicago had over 60 pairs of sacred shoes. We worked with organizations such as Parents for Peace and Justice, Purpose over Pain, Chicago Survivors, The Kleo Foundation and Precious Blood. These organizations are the primary source of support in assisting families grieve their loss. Family members were eager to honor their loved one by sharing their story, to proclaim that their loved one did exist and will remain unforgotten. These workshops are a powerful and comforting source of connection between family members who have gone through this unspeakable loss.
