GSP Los Angeles was created to bring attention to the 43 students from Iguala, Mexico that were kidnapped and ultimately murdered under the alleged direction of Iguala's mayor, Jose Luis Abarca Velazquez, and his wife Maria de los Angeles Pineda Villa.
The installation itself was in the shape of the number 43 and placed at Runyon Canyon. Each pair of shoes had a toe tag with information of the person honored. We invited viewers to take a pair of shoes with the promise they would place them somewhere else in the city, take a photo and share it in social media. The idea was to use this form of communication as a vehicle to spread awareness with the hashtag #goldenshoesproject. |
