Golden Shoes Project

Golden Shoes project

Los angeles (iguala mexico)

Picture
GSP Los Angeles was created to bring attention to the 43 students from Iguala, Mexico that were kidnapped and ultimately murdered under the alleged direction  of Iguala's mayor, Jose Luis Abarca Velazquez, and his wife Maria de los Angeles Pineda Villa.
The installation itself was in the shape of the number 43 and placed at Runyon Canyon.
Each pair of shoes had a toe tag with information of the person honored. We invited viewers to take a pair of shoes with the promise they would place them somewhere else in the city, take a photo and share it in social media. The idea was to use this form of communication as a vehicle to spread awareness with the hashtag #goldenshoesproject.

Each pair of shoes had a toe tag with information about the victim including: name, age and a bit of personal insight to their personality. It was designed for the viewer to  have a deeper appreciation for the life lost.

Art in the City

Marco Antonio Gomez loved rock and roll. @Soprim took his shoes to the iconic Amoeba Records and placed them in the window display; a meaningful way to honor a soul who was moved by music.
